Beauty in Steel

“His effort ushered works of beauty into the kiteboarding world… When I say the rails were hand-built, I mean it with utmost sincerity. Every single portion beside the stock metal was hand cut, angled, welded, braced, ground, and painted, occupying hours of labor, until finally, the design is stood in pristine beauty.”

Noè Font is a talented park rider and key to developing the rails and features for Kite Park League events. It’s not like you can just order them off the internet on next day delivery. We hear all about his hard work and dedication.

Decide, Commit, Succeed

“I remind myself to take deep breaths – breathe in for four seconds, hold for four seconds breathe out for four seconds. I have spent months getting my act together, only for it to come down to one day; telling myself to trust my preparation keeps me calm. There is, for sure, excitement to performing when it counts.”

Competitions come down to mere minutes of performance after countless hours of mental and physical preparation. Nathalie Lambrecht talks us through the focus needed when the time comes to fight for a podium place.

Police in Helicopter

“Now we just needed a lot of wind and a unique location. We found the unique location, but little did we know what was about to interfere… The spot itself was already quite tricky, with strong currents, many rocks, and not much space to take off and land. Combined with helicopters flying everywhere, it was quite nerve-racking.”

When Stig Hoefnagel set out on a photoshoot to capture the latest Big Air kite from Naish, he wasn’t expecting to run into fire, police or helicopters. Even though things got a bit spicy he still managed to bag the cover shot.

Home Sweet Home

“It was a dream come true to win that event… By achieving this milestone, I hope to open people’s minds to the endless possibilities that come from dedication, resilience, and a willingness to challenge the status quo. It’s about inspiring others to believe in their potential and to pursue their passions with determination.”

Bruna Kajiya might be the most senior woman on the GKA Freestyle-Kite World Tour, but that didn’t stop her taking the world title and winning the event at her beloved Cauipe Lagoon, a venue she calls her second home.

My Beach: Lo Stagnone

“Sicily to me is the best place in Italy to be if you want to become a professional kitesurfer. Thanks to these conditions I was able to chase my dream and become the world champion. I left my hometown to dedicate my whole life to this sport and Lo Stagnone gave me the opportunity other places could never have given me.”

Previously a competitive sailor, Gianmaria Coccoluto only took up kiting at the age of 18. Making a bold move, he relocated to Sicily without telling anyone, and embarked on a long journey towards becoming world champion.

Behind the Clip

“Since both Karolina and Kasia were born and raised in the area, it wasn’t hard to convince a local fisherman to take a day off from fishing and give us a ride to one of the largest sandbanks in the whole chain. We scored perfect conditions with no one else around and had sick flat water for freestyle on the offshore side.”

Poland’s Hel Peninsula is the country’s most popular kite spot and can get quite crowded, so when the Nobile team had to shoot a video and photos, they headed to a harder-to-reach spot nearby on a chain of tiny sandbanks.

TKM57 Mission copiar - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #57

The Mission: Tread Lightly

“As kiters, we have a responsibility to not only respect the environment but also to advocate for its protection. Hardangervidda is a place of unparalleled beauty and natural wonder, and it’s up to those of us who kite there to ensure that it remains that way for generations to come.”

With a potential kiting ban threatened at one of the world’s top snowkiting destinations, the Hardangervidda plateau, Norway’s largest wild reindeer area, Kari Schibevaag dishes out some advice if you’re thinking of visiting.
