TKM65 IN DA HOOD - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #65

In Da Hood

Shooting with Noè is always a pleasure. His tricks look amazing, and he has a great sense of space – when I ask him to hit a specific line or position for the background, he always nails it. This season I pulled him out of the park for a bit so we could shoot some freestyle at one of my favorite spots. The wind didn’t last as long as we hoped, but we still got some shots I’m really happy with…

Andre Magarao bagged this issue’s cover with a shot of Noè Font, so yeah… they can both be very happy with what they achieved. They tell us about why they love Hood River.

TKM65 WAVES BETWEEN US - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #65

Waves Between Us

“The wind was clean, the waves had that familiar Cape Town bite, and Carl was out there – flowing through each turn, perfectly in sync with the ocean. I stood on the sand with my camera, but my thoughts drifted elsewhere. This was the same beach where my brother, Graham, last kited. The same place he’d soared during King of the Air. The same ocean that, not long ago, took him – doing what he loved most…”

Photographer Craig Howes, brother of the late Graham Howes, captured some stunning shots of wave-riding fan Carl Ferreira and they have dedicated this piece to Graham.

TKM65 LOCAL HERO - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #65

Local Hero

“It was also an incredible experience growing up in a place where all the pro riders come to train for months every year. It definitely shaped who I am today. It was epic watching Aaron Hadlow, Alex Pastor and Liam Whaley come here every season. I’m 28 now, but I’m still super motivated to train and improve. This new generation brings new energy…”

This issue features an exclusive interview with GKA competitor Erick Anderson, a talented and stylish rider who grew up at the legendary freestyle hot spot of Cumbuco.

TKM65 CAPE CRUSADERS - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #65

Cape Crusaders

The Cape of Storms stood up to its name for sure! Battered by waves of horizontal wind and rain, I managed somehow to keep my camera dry. This is by far the worst-case scenario as a photographer, as our equipment is not just expensive – it’s personal, an extension of our vision which enables us to capture small moments in time…”

Camdyn Kellett is always up for battling the elements, and his father Andrew is dedicated to the cause of capturing shots of his son whatever the Cape weather throws at them.

TKM65 UNDER THE HOOD - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #65

Under The Hood

I’ve always approached products from both sides: performance and practicality. As a rider, I know what gear needs to be delivered, and as a tester and developer, I understand how to make that happen. That combination lets me push innovation with a deep understanding of how products perform in real conditions

Airush has a new CEO on board: former World Champion Alex Pastor. He shares how his career, vision and deep connection with the brand are shaping the next chapter.

TKM65 THE CREATORS - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #65

The Creators

Lorenzo winning KOTA and completing the Trilogy, Leo finishing second at only 16 in his debut, and Lana taking third in the Women’s division… it’s unreal. It’s something you dream about. For us as a brand, it’s the confirmation that we’re doing things the right way. It shows what’s possible when you combine world-class riders, the right mindset, and the best performing gear

It’s been quite the year for Harlem with multiple podium wins and brand-new gear being released. We find out about some of the highlights from founder Alexander Morgenstern.

TKM65 THE MISSION Deserted Denmark - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #65

The Mission: Deserted Denmark

“It is the age-old dream of discovery: silky flat water without a soul in sight… a noble goal when you are an intrepid single carload of explorers, maybe overly optimistic thinking when you’re four cumbersome vanloads of high-school students and teachers?! As we round the bend towards the sleepy town of Krik, the vans begin to buzz with an infectious excitement…”

The World Class Kiteboard Academy, a mobile boarding school for young kiters, recently hit up Denmark and found it virtually deserted, meaning they had dreamy spots to themselves.

TKM65 ON THE LIST - THEKITEMAG ISSUE #65

On The List

“Some spots keep calling you back, not loud, just steady, like wind against glass. This is the story of how we fell in love with an off-the-beaten-path corner of Portugal, and the adventure of sharing it with my closest friends… We came to explore, and almost immediately found our perfect flow between two lagoons: Lagoa de Óbidos and Lagoa de Albufeira.”

Ryan “Rygo” Goloversic and Kristen Cooper have made Portugal their second home, and treated good friend Chris Bobryk, and now us, to a tour of their favorite spots.
