Master of the Ocean begins…

Diego Anta - Master of the Ocean begins...

The opening ceremony of the Master of the Ocean event took place last night in Cabarete, marking the beginning of an epic 5 day long tournament, which is now officially underway!

Over the next 5 days, twelve of the worlds best water athletes will compete in all four contest disciplines: surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding and stand-up paddling (SUP). This will be happening at Encuentro Beach, part of the beautiful Cabarete resort in the Dominican Republic. The competition features a maximum of 12 teams of four athletes per team (one for every discipline) and a maximum of 16 overall athletes who master all four disciplines, with each competing for the Master of the Ocean title.

In 2014, two highly talented windsurfers took both the men’s and the women’s Master of the Ocean titles respectively – Zane Schweitzer from Hawaii and Fiona Wylde from Oregon. The defending champions will once again be competing against established and new water men and women, from all corners of the planet… places such as Barbados, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Germany, Israel, Puerto Rico, Scandinavia, Spain and the USA.

“As the only competition in the world that combines all four surf-related disciplines, the Master of the Ocean challenges the most skilled surfers, kitesurfers, windsurfers and stand-up paddlesurfers,” explained German waterman and event founder Marcus Bohm, who first organized the event in 2003.

The forecast in Cabarete for the week ahead is looking fvourable indeed and all the riders are present, pumped and already showing off their skills… We're stoked to be media partners for the event, and will be bringing you updates and images from the beach as we have them!
