KITING SETUP
Babaomby offers one of the best kiting setups in the Indian Ocean. The lagoon is wide, shallow and protected by a reef, creating flat, turquoise water ideal for freestyle, progression and safe learning, with no crowds and plenty of space. Launching is easy from the lodge’s private beach, with professional rescue support always on standby. Beyond the lagoon, riders enjoy clean waves at the reef, long downwinders, and empty sandbanks. WHEN IS BEST TO GO?
The best time to visit Babaomby is from April to November, when the famous Varatraza wind blows almost daily. During these months, conditions are incredibly reliable, with steady 20 to 35-knot winds and clear, sunny weather. The lagoon stays flat, offering perfect kiting conditions. July to September are peak wind months, while April to June and October to November offer slightly lighter but still consistent winds. This long, dependable season makes Babaomby one of the most reliable wind destinations in the world.
NO WIND?
If there’s no wind, visitors still have plenty to enjoy at Babaomby. The Emerald Sea offers amazing snorkeling, SUP, kayaking and fishing in crystal-clear water. Guests can explore untouched, deserted islands, mangroves and traditional villages, or relax with walks, yoga and quiet time in nature. Boat trips, whale-watching (in season), and sunset excursions are also available. With its remote setting and stunning landscapes, Babaomby is just as magical off the water as it is on it.
