Surf and Kite Theologos is located on the west coast of Rhodes, one of the largest Greek islands with beautiful sand beaches and little picturesque villages. Open from 1st April, this is a perfect option for a kite holiday, with 300 days of sunshine a year and consistent cross-onshore winds. Our beach is safe, with no rock hazards, and our center has ample space for launching and landing right outside. Theologos offers perfect conditions and set-up for all levels of rider, including a rescue service, state-of-the-art rental equipment, and highly trained coaches. The average temperature of the sparkling water is 27C, mostly flat with some days choppy and wavy. You can book accommodation in the associated Logos Beach Village, a spacious garden complex with 13 tented lodges and 4 bungalows, where the motto “From bed to board” has been perfectly implemented.

THE LOWDOWN

The 300 days of sunshine a year, consistent cross-onshore Meltemi winds, 220km of accessible shoreline, and a whole lot of culture makes Rhodes a perfect option for a kiting holiday, even as early as 1 April when Surf and Kite Theologos opens, as the wind and weather on Rhodes are already great at this time of year. Located on the west coast, just 5km south of the airport, you’ll find our center, run by German owner Tobias Gottfried, with ample space for launching and landing right outside the center. The shingle beach is safe, with no rock hazards. The prevailing conditions are flat, clear and sometimes choppy water, so a great spot for both beginners and advanced riders who want to improve their skills. Wind tends to kick in first thing in the morning, and pick up after lunchtime, ranging from 15 to 25 knots from the west or southwest.

KITING SET UP

You can expect a location in Theologos where everything is just right: perfect infrastructure, state-of-the-art rental equipment, highly trained coaches, diverse conditions that will make both beginners and advanced kiters happy, a dedicated team and a facility with a super-chilled atmosphere. The center also includes windsurfing and wingfoil facilities – the area for windsurfers is upwind and the kiters ride downwind, so there is enough space on the water for all, even in the busy summer months of July and August. Additional storage options have been created for wingfoilers arriving with their own equipment; they can store their boards and wings in both the kite and surf station this year.

WHEN IS BEST TO GO?

Our season is from April until the end of October. The prices in the early season are super attractive, and speaking of saving money – if you book accommodation and water sports services (course, equipment rental, storage) online in advance as a combined package, you can save up to 20% compared to booking on site! Early in the season the winds are light and pick up after lunch. In high summer, wind is pretty much guaranteed, with Rhodes benefiting from the reliable Meltemi winds, giving an ample 20-25 knots. Then in autumn there can be some strong side-onshore winds which can give rise to some fun wave action!

NO WIND?

This is a great destination for water sport enthusiasts, culture lovers, families and singles. There’s plenty of island fun to be had out of the water, as well as renowned Greek dinners and live music. There’s a lot to discover on the island – beautiful sand beaches, little picturesque villages, and plenty to see in the culturally rich city of Rhodes, not least the medieval castle, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rental car, scooters or ATVs are easily available. Alternatively you can join an organized adventure to enjoy climbing, diving, or even a safari. If you’re sportive through and through, Surf and Kite Theologos offers crossfit training, yoga, beach volleyball and many more activities. The popular community events such as pasta night and beach BBQ have been retained this year, while the beach restaurant, which was expanded last year, has a new menu for extended culinary enjoyment.

Getting There

Rhodes (RHO) Airport (by Fraport) is reachable in three hours from most European airports. There is also the harbor of Rhodes which connects the island with daily ferries to Athens and many other destinations. Shuttle services, rental car, scooters or ATVs are all easy to arrange.

Kite Options

9m and 12m or a nice foil set up with a small kite.

Which Wetsuit?

Bring your bikini or boardies, no need for a wetsuit in Rhodes.

Beer

Around 2.50€ at the beach.

Typical Dinner

Opt for a typical Greek meze dinner, best shared with friends at a local taverna. Savings tip at Logos – guests can buy a 40-euro voucher in advance, which can then be redeemed in the restaurant for a 50-euro consumption.

Late Night

Grab a beer and gather around the bbq. Don’t miss out on the live music, and party the warm summer’s night away in authentic Greek style with friends and family.
