Kalpitiya is a world-renowned kiting destination with its steady winds and large flat-water lagoon. For discerning kiters Koddu Kalpitiya is the only high-end hotel in Kalpitiya. Nestled on four acres on the waterfront of the Kalpitiya Lagoon Peninsula, Koddu’s exceptional location allows for a spectacular 280-degree lagoon view, giving guests the rare privilege of enjoying sunrise and sunset whilst being surrounded by water. THE LOWDOWN

Set amidst rustic, beautiful and untouched natural surroundings, the property consists of six private villas, a stunning infinity pool, bar and restaurant, and a drawing/tv room, with a team of staff dedicated to discreetly look after your every need in total privacy. Kiters can be picked up directly in front of the hotel on the lagoon, and the main kiting area is only ten minutes away by boat.

KITING SET UP

Its wide lagoon, reliable windy seasons and adventurous downwind routes give Kalpitiya its kiting paradise status. With onshore wave riding across the sandbar and 100 km of downwind-able space to investigate, it attracts all levels of kiters.

With direct pick up from our beach, Koddu is perfectly located to make arrangements for all levels.

WHEN IS BEST TO GO?

The two kiting seasons are the summer season from May to mid October, and the winter season from December to mid March.

NO WIND?

Kalpitiya is famous for dolphin and whale watching, between November and March. Guests can also visit the Wilpattu National Park, which is one of the biggest and most picturesque national parks in Sri Lanka and can be visited all year-round. The safari includes a boat ride on the lagoon to get to the park entrance. Koddu is currently the only hotel in Kalpitiya that provides this option. Sightings can include elephants, leopards, sloth bears, crocodiles and numerous peacocks and birds.

Other activities include scuba diving, deep sea fishing, yoga lessons, kayaking, boat tours on the lagoon, night camping and bird watching.

Getting There

The hotel is 145 km from the Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo. Despite its secluded location, the road to the hotel is paved all the way to its entrance. The drive from the airport is about three hours. Transfers can be organized by the hotel.

Kite Options

A 10 and 12m kite should set you up for a nice ride in the steady winds of Kalpitiya.

Which Wetsuit?

Wetsuits are not needed as the temperature of the lagoon is 28/29  ̊C all year round.

The Chef and his team are also more than willing to prepare mouthwatering international dishes to guests’ tastes ranging from a vast list on the set menu or a variety of specially crafted fine-dining options. Each dining experience can be complimented with fine wines, fresh juices and the beautiful surroundings of sunshine and shorelines.

Late Night

Guests can sip cocktails near the infinity pool or at our lounge which features a bar. Dinner can be served in the restaurant, on the pool deck or on the lawn in front of the lagoon for the best sunset view. Guests love Koddu for its secluded location and relaxed atmosphere by the lagoon.
