For beginners, you will find your next playground at ION CLUB Kite Lagoon, a perfect place to learn to kitesurf and enjoy the beautiful landscapes. Obviously, for more experimented kitesurfers who prefer to freeride or freestyle, you can also enjoy the blue water of this lagoon and this breathtaking scenery. Waves are also breaking on the reef about 400m from the shore, and there is everything you want to imagine from entry to expert level. Here you will find all dreaming kitesurf conditions: from the shallow water lagoon the Small Reef or the famous wave spot “One-Eye” in the southwest of Mauritius. THE LOWDOWN

Mauritius is heaven for water sports enthusiasts. As a kitesurfer, this is definitely a place you should tick off your bucket list. No other spot in the world is so diverse, combining all the conditions you may dream of in just one spot. From flat water to waves, there is something for everyone. Beginners will find their next playground in the shallow lagoon, a perfect place to learn to kite and enjoy the beautiful landscapes. More experienced kiters can also freeride or freestyle in the blue water of this lagoon or head out to the waves that break on the reef, including the famous wave “One Eye”. ION CLUB Le Morne has restructured since the beginning of 2023. You can now find us at several points all over the spot. We have five points for sales and different services.

KITING SET UP

The spot is formed by a peninsula at the foot of the majestic Le Morne Brabant Mountain. Beginners can learn in a knee-to-waist-deep standing area with flat water and onshore wind, which is also the perfect place to train freestyle tricks. Only 200m downwind, the conditions shift to sideshore with more chop, offering ideal bump and jump conditions. Waves break on the reef about 400m from the shore. ION CLUB is located all over the spot to ensure security for all riders.

WHEN IS BEST TO GO?

The Le Morne season runs from April to December.

NO WIND?

If there is no wind, you can easily surf and enjoy a SUP ride surrounded by all the beautiful landscapes. You can also discover the beauty of Mauritius at the Black River Gorges, with its seven waterfalls, that offers a wide choice of guided walks suitable for all levels of fitness and experience. You can hike up Le Morne Brabant Mountain and admire the view. There is also the geopark at Chamarel with its “seven colors of the earth”, a geological formation and prominent tourist attraction. Finally, you could enjoy the memorable experience of swimming with dolphins in their natural environment.

Getting There

Located in the southwest of the island, the spot is by the village of Le Morne and after the mountain of Le Morne. We are located in different hotels and points around Le Morne spot: Hotel Dinarobin and the JW Mariott, also at La Pointe, Kite lagoon, and La Gaulette.

Kite Options

Depending on your weight, 7 and 9m or 8 and 10m. The wind usually blows between 18 and 25 knots on average. In July and August, sometimes the wind can get stronger for a few days.

Which Wetsuit?

Shorty and 3/2 for waves.

Beer

About 2 euros.

Typical Dinner

You have to try the fish curry… There are good restaurants in La Gaulette named Ocean Vagabond and Enzo.

Late Night

For nightlife you can go to Tamarin – we recommend Big Willy’s.
