Doing a quick internet search, I found photos of stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and beautiful landscapes that looked perfect for water sports. But what really caught my attention was the surprise of a direct charter flight from Oslo to Limnos. How had I never heard of this island before? I could picture myself there on a kite, SUP or wingfoil. I boarded my flight, excited and curious, leaving the freezing temperatures of northern Norway. The moment I stepped off the plane in Limnos, I was greeted by a wave of warmth that instantly lifted my spirits.
I was collected at the airport and driven to the Surf Club Keros where I would be staying, just 20 minutes away. My first impression was, “What a fantastic place!”. It felt like an oasis. The center had a series of cozy tents – by tent I mean glamping not camping – each with its own unique vibe, and a large communal area where all the meals were served. There was a space dedicated to yoga and even an outdoor cinema. From the center, you could see right down to the water where all the action was happening – kiting, wingfoiling, windsurfing and SUPing. The spot was a short walk away, or you could take the shuttle, but I preferred to walk. After all, it felt good to stretch my legs after the flight.
The Surf Club had everything you could need: a café, a surf school, parasols on the beach and a little shop stocked with gear. The water was crystal clear, the wind was perfect, and the temperature was just right – not too hot, not too cold. I grabbed my board and had an amazing session. It felt incredible to be back in warm water, gliding over the clear sea with the sun on my skin, with just a shortie on.
The days flew by, filled with hours on the water, delicious food, and the company of new friends on the Girl Bikini Tribe Camp. The atmosphere was laid-back and welcoming, and everyone was there to enjoy themselves and share their love of the ocean. In September, the spot was not crowded at all, and there was plenty of space on the water and under the parasols. There was also surfing on the island. I didn’t do any, but I saw some pictures of different beaches from some of the other girls doing surf. They always came home with a smile so I would say it was a success. One of them was thinking of starting a women’s surf club at her home in Greece. This is what makes me happy with these camps – we are opening the heart towards the ocean.
