Man of Many Talents

We’ve known James Boulding since he was knee high to a grasshopper and have watched him grow from accomplished rider to talented photographer to Marketing Manager at Cabrinha, perhaps the industry’s only Marketing Manager who also takes the majority of their brand’s publicity photos. As a side hustle he’s also a mean barista and cocker spaniel whisperer… Here he reflects on some of his recent snaps from Cabrinha’s photoshoot in Fuerteventura for their 2025 product launch.

The golden hour: my favorite time to shoot. The sun and water create all sorts of beautiful shapes and color. This new Switchblade colorway literally glows with vibrance and when Alby Rondina is hucking all sorts of handlepass variations off kicker waves it’s truly a spectacle to behold!

“A clean kite is an efficient kite.” Quote by Pat Goodman, Cabrinha’s kite designer. This is Alby Rondina riding the new 2025 Switchblade just released, not a wrinkle in sight. The kite has had a full redesign and comes in Cabrinha’s high performing APEX construction. Alby’s level of riding in kickers has been at such a high level for a couple of decades now and he doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon, especially when a kite like this is in his hands.

There aren’t many water sports company owners that shred hard on and off the water. Jon Modica has been involved in the Cabrinha brand since he was a fuzzy-haired grom. He remains full of energy and passion for getting time in the water and can’t help himself from contributing to the surf development program. Needless to say, the Drifter is his go-to kite when the waves roll in.

When it comes to heavy, equipment-breaking beach breaks, you have to choose your craft carefully. For most, a hydrofoil would be the last choice to avoid becoming sushi. For Titouan Galea with his impeccable foil skills it’s the perfect way to enjoy riding waves in sub 10 knots.

Hannah Whiteley: powerful and stylishly in control, photographed somewhere along the northeast coast of Fuerteventura, at a place where you really don’t want things to go wrong, for the rider or photographer.

Wait, what?! Isn’t this how every brand tests out their new footstraps?! Benji Castenskiold puts to the test the ‘locked in’ comfort feel of Cabrinha’s new Source Footstraps.
