What are your first recollections of the beach?
As I grew up right on Lake Mondsee, I was already on a windsurfing board at the age of three and tried kitesurfing for the first time when I was about six years old. I grew up with water sports, so to speak, and I still live in the same house where I spent my childhood.
Can you remember any of your first sessions?
My first sessions were under the guidance and support of my neighbor Roman. The first sessions were anything but successful and I struggled for hours to stay upwind. But I wasn’t discouraged and it was all worth it. 20 years later, I still feel the same passion for this sport. Now I work as a truck driver in my father’s transport company, but kiting is my true obsession.
Who else did you ride there with?
In the beginning, I went kiting with my friends Roman and Mäx. Over the years, however, a larger community of kiters has formed around Lake Mondsee – we are a real community!
Can you talk us through the typical conditions?
It is best here for kiting when an east wind is blowing, which we call a fog wind here. Unfortunately, all other wind directions at Mondsee are very gusty and unstable. And launches are not so easy at Mondsee, as space is very limited due to the many trees, which makes setting the kite up and launching difficult. I am lucky enough to be able to launch directly in front of my house.
