As the summer season winds down, athletes begin to plan their next adventure. For Jhon Perez, this meant heading to the Red Bull Winds of Sinai, a prestigious Big Air event in one of the most stunning yet challenging locations in Egypt. This competition was not just about pushing limits for him, but also about testing the latest innovation from Roberto Ricci Designs: the Gold Obsession kite.
Jhon was entrusted by RRD to put the new Gold Obsession through its paces in a high-stakes environment. Designed for Big Air professionals, this kite combines explosive lift, precise control, and unmatched stability. To document the journey, RRD partnered with Marco from Raw Sight Productions, ensuring that every moment of the event was captured – from the intense competition to the breathtaking scenery.
Traveling to Egypt is never straightforward. The stark contrast between the country’s immense natural beauty and its economic hardships is evident. The people, however, are incredibly welcoming and always willing to help. Accommodation tends to be basic yet functional, but what truly stands out is the incredible kiteboarding spot at Dahab. The Winds of Sinai location is a dream for freeriders. While the wind conditions can be unpredictable, the experience of kiting in such a surreal setting is second to none.
“During the competition, the wind remained light, making it a challenging event for the riders,” Jhon recalled. “However, I was able to set up my 11 and 12m kites, and despite the lighter wind, the kite delivered an incredible lift. I could hardly believe how much power and height I was able to achieve under such conditions. The performance of the Gold Obsession truly exceeded my expectations, proving its capability even in less-than-ideal wind.”
Despite the conditions not being ideal, the organization was flawless, ensuring that the event ran smoothly and that athletes had the best possible experience.
