Relentless Synergy

For all of us, when doubt and fear creep in, often what it takes to overcome that is the support and encouragement of your friends and family, and in the case of kiting, your fellow kiters. This is no less important for pro riders as Nathalie Lambrecht and Francesca Maini found out when they filmed their recent project Relentless Synergy in iconic Cape Town.

It all started with the drive to put more women-powered Big Air projects out there and push the level even further. Nomadicsea – Aron Rosslee and Dylan Osborne – reached out to us to bring this proposal to life, and everything just started to align. What began as a simple idea quickly turned into a real mission – and finally came to fruition in Cape Town. Honestly, what better place than one of the most iconic Big Air spots in the world?

Cape Town delivered its signature conditions: strong, sometimes brutal wind, massive kickers, and that unreal backdrop of Table Mountain. But shooting a project like this isn’t just about chasing the best wind – there’s also the challenge of capturing raw moments, on and off the water. Shooting with Nomadicsea made the whole experience even more special. They didn’t just follow us with a camera – they truly understood the vision.

Nathalie: “The beginning of the shoot was rough for me – physically and mentally. I was still recovering from injury, and the fear of getting hurt again started creeping in. We were mostly riding at sunset, and somehow always caught the strongest, gustiest wind of the day. Normally, those are the sessions that fire me up. But instead, I felt pressure building. I was scared to jump, scared of the waves… and when I’m not having fun, I don’t perform. I of course wanted to land my best tricks for the video, but doubt kept sneaking in. But what made the difference was the energy between me and Fran, both on and off the water.”

Francesca: “Being part of this project has been a great experience. Cape Town is my favorite place to kitesurf in the world – I can’t get enough of the big kickers and strong wind. It gives me so much adrenaline and that’s why I also loved competing in Red Bull King of the Air so much. Creating the project here also felt special after winning KOTA. During the shoot we kited in some extreme conditions, which was so much fun but also sometimes a bit terrifying! Having Nathalie there really helped me push myself. I remember one day during the shoot I was nervous to push some tricks and not really riding my best as the wind was super strong and gusty – I was absolutely stacked on my 7m Orbit Pro.  I then see Nathalie go for a massive boogie-loop with the kite super low and she lands it clean. I immediately got so hyped and watching her took away my fear, straight after her trick I went for a big kiteloop board-off and landed it.”

That moment captured the essence of Relentless Synergy – pushing boundaries together, even in the most unpredictable conditions.

Nathalie: “What helped me push through was the support I had at home and Fran. Watching her ride with so much joy and confidence was hugely motivating. It can feel sensitive at times – when you’re not living up to your own expectations and your teammate seems to be thriving. But at the end of the day, we all experience highs and lows, and it’s important to remember that everyone’s path is different. Fran brings so much to the table, both on and off the water. Her energy is infectious, lighting up every session she’s in. The combination of her style, power and passion is exactly why she earned the title of the first ever women’s division at KOTA. So toward the end of the shoot, things finally started to shift. I began trusting my body again. I had some crashes where I thought, okay, that wasn’t too bad, and that helped me push a little more each time. I started enjoying the sessions again. And the bonus was, we also got better conditions – smoother wind, more chances to really send it. Pretty sure we both did some of our highest loops ever, thanks to our North set up.”

Francesca: “At the start of the shoot, I could see Nat wasn’t quite as confident as she used to be. Despite the challenges she always had such a positive mindset and always came onto the water with such a smile. As the shoot went on, I could see a shift in her energy. With each session, her confidence came back, it was so inspiring and uplifting to see her overcome those setbacks. Riding together reminded me how powerful we can be at helping each other on the water and without even realizing it! It’s so nice for people to see women’s Big Air kiting in another light other than competitions. I really hope this project, and events like KOTA, inspires more people, especially girls, to get into extreme sports like Big Air kiting. Being a part of this project, riding with Nathalie and working with Nomadicsea has been an amazing experience and hopefully there is a lot more to come in the future.”

This shoot was more than just about landing tricks. It was about showing what’s possible when women are given the platform to shine…
