What was the design philosophy behind the latest Moto Apex?
The modern kitesurfer expects more from a single kite than ever before. Today’s freeride category is all about versatility without compromise. Enter the latest generation of the Moto from our freeride category of kites, the Moto Apex. Its design philosophy blends accessibility with serious performance and has been purpose-built by the entire development team, spearheaded by lead kite designer Pat Goodman to achieve incredible performance for all users across the widest range of ability levels – from laid-back cruising to the ever increasing demands of Big Air, and even into the nuanced worlds of foiling and wave riding.
How have you managed to achieve such versatility?
One of the reasons the Moto Apex is so versatile is its high-V and low-V compatibility. Using the Unify control bar, users can easily modify the configuration to choose their desired setup and change the kite’s performance characteristics. Traditionally, kites are optimized for a specific front-line split, either high-V or low-V, which can affect everything from relaunch to turning characteristics. This new design addresses that limitation with a carefully tuned 7-point precision bridle and canopy geometry that performs consistently across both configurations. The addition of two Aluula struts either side of the center add intentional canopy support while reducing weight. The result is a kite that maintains its intended shape and responsiveness regardless of the bar setup.

What are the performance differences of the two setups?
On the high-V, riders will appreciate the slightly increased support and lighter steering input, particularly in overpowered conditions. It also allows for a tighter, smoother turn during kiteloop maneuvers. Switch to the low-V setup and the kite retains its lively feel and direct response, with a more ‘legacy’ feel.
So the kite works for both freeride and Big Air?
At its core, this kite is built for freeride progression. The first thing riders will notice is its intuitive handling. Bar pressure sits comfortably across the medium range, offering enough feedback to always know where the kite is without fatiguing the arms. Sheet-and-go power delivery makes it especially appealing for intermediate riders.
When it comes to boosting, the kite truly comes alive. Send it hard, and the kite responds with a powerful vertical lift. Remember how the original Crossbow changed the freeride game so many years ago? There is some of that magic and ease of use with the Moto. The lift is smooth rather than explosive, which helps with control mid-air and makes it easier to spot landings, especially through heli-loops and coming down from altitude.
And you’re confident it can even work for foiling and wave riding?
The Moto Apex exemplifies where the freeride segment is heading: toward all-in-one solutions that don’t force riders to choose between disciplines. Whether you’re chasing your next personal height record, carving clean lines on a wave, or gliding silently on a foil, the Moto delivers a cohesive and confidence-inspiring experience. Add in the flexibility of High / Low-V setup compatibility, and it becomes clear that this is more than just a freeride kite – it’s a true all-rounder built for the modern rider.
