But when I was around 14 I decided to stop wakeboarding because I found I was starting to hurt myself a lot. A couple of months later, the same friends that got me into wakeboarding started kiting, so of course I did too. It seemed inevitable that I would get into twintip freestyle because of my wakeboard background. But actually the sport that I really love and is a lifestyle for me is surfing, so I went into the wave-riding side of kiting because of that. I’m currently writing this on a flight to Mexico, chasing some surf swell in Pascuales. When I’m not kiting I really like to surf – I find it helps a lot with my kiting, so it’s really important to be active in both.
Having grown up competing in wakeboarding, I had a drive to win. I always wanted to be the first! My kitesurf career started with the GKA Big Air event in Tarifa – that was my first ever kitesurf competition and I got second place. After that I became Kite-Surf Junior World Champion in 2022 and this year became Kite-Surf World Champion at the last stop of the tour, in my home country. Reaching that goal, with my whole family there and after only two years on the tour, was a dream. Now I only need to have 10 more of those and then I’m done! Another highlight was at the previous comp in Sylt, where I got a 10-point score for a Triple Front Shove-it – this a trick that I’m the only person in the world to do, so I knew if I landed it they would give me a 10. I just needed the opportunity to do it at a comp with proper conditions and I had that in Sylt. It felt so insane achieving that!
